Soundwalk
For the soundwalk assignment I chose to walk down in my residential neighborhood, in South part of Brooklyn. I live in Bensonhurst. I’m writing this while i’m walking.
The first sound I heard the moment I stepped out of the building was 3 men talking in language which did not sound familiar to me. I suddenly heard fire department’s car’s alarm sounds because I live a block away from the fire department of Bensonhurst. Since it was a nice weather I saw 3 birds humming on the tree. I was very observant and attentive, i tried my best to hear every little thing on the street but it’s impossible to listen to everything at the same time. I heard someone was dragging the trash bag probably full of glasses and cans because it sounds very harsh. The card are honking. I passed the laundromat and heard how little cat jumped out of the bushes. I walked down 2 blocks, I heard 2-3 different languages spoken, some Mandarin, Spanish, and Albanian. I went close to the main street and heard not pleasant sound of F train. Since I heard kids talking, laughing, and yelling I realized that school was over and children couldn’t wait to be outside in a good weather, while I was observing that I heard school bus honking at the vehicle.
All of these sounds made me happy because I realized that spring is already here and many people tried to enjoy and take an advantage of the weather by walking outside. The soundwalk assignment was very interesting but it wasn’t as easy as I thought, i really tried to hear every detail but it was impossible.
